Attention drawn to demands of workers associated with tourism sector

Kathmandu, March 22: Workers associated with tourism sector have drawn attention of the bodies concerned, saying the companies have not provided service and facilities as per the agreement. Organizing a news conference here on Thursday, UniTravel, an organisation of tourism workers, demanded implementation of the past agreement made regarding service and facilities of tourism workers.
It also put forth nine-point demand and added that it would be compelled to launch agitation if they were not addressed. The organisation also urged the sides concerned to resolve the problem at the earliest by holding talks among Home Ministry, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ministry of Forest and Environment and Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security. 
UniTravel Chair Suman Prasad Parajuli said that service and facilities would be provided as per the past agreement and the concerned companies should guarantee the social security fund of the workers. He said that they would launch stern agitation from April 4 if their demands are not addressed immediately. 
Objecting over the non-implementation of the agreement signed between Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) even after four months and the act of threatening workers while seeking service and facilities as per the agreement, the organsation members said they would knock the door of the court if the companies do not provide determined wages and facilities, reads the press release issued by the organisation. 
Making mountaineering systematic by guaranteeing participation of workers in course of celebrating Nepal Visit Year is also the demand of the organisation. Workers affiliated with trekking, travels, rafting, airlines, cargo and currier are associated with the organisation.
