Good service available for expedition in Nepal: Zhang Wei


Zhang Wei, chairperson of 14 Peaks Expedition, has organized most of expeditions organized in Nepal helping to develop the mountain tourism. The Himalayan News talked with him about his career as expedition leader and experiences in his career.

How long have you been in this field?

I have been climbing mountains for 12 years and I have been a climb leader for about 7 years.

What helped you to develop interest in this field?

The beauty of snowcapped mountains, my attempt to discover the human limitations, to enjoy the freedom (both heart and body) in life, and help people to clearly understand the real situation to climb helped me to gain interest in mountaineering.

How many expeditions have you organized till date?

I have organized many expeditions in my career of mountaineer and climb leader. I have successfully completed the expeditions of Mt Everest, Mt Manaslu, Mt Lhotse, Mt Dhaulagiri, and Mt Ama Dablam.

How many peaks have you summited?

I have summited 8 mountains. To be precise, Mt Everest, Mt Manaslu, Mt Lhotse, Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt Ama Dablam, Mt Muztag Ata, Mt Kilimanjaro, and Chola Mountain.

Which expedition are you planning to organize this year?

This year expedition of Mt Everest, Mt Manaslu, Mt Lhotse, Mt Himalon and Mt Ama Dablam is on the list of expedition plan.

Why do you prefer to organize most of your expeditions in Nepal?

First of all, eight of the top fourteen highest mountains in the world are located in Nepal. And most beautiful landscapes which can be reached in foot is also available here. Secondly, after several years of development, now expedition is the most popular activity in Nepal, guides with rich experience can be easily found here. The Sherpa have made a great contribution to the expedition, organizing the expeditions in Nepal can provide them a job which helps to improve their living conditions. At last, people of many ages and capabilities can find a suitable choice from the huge variety of options in Nepal.

What differences did you find while organizing expeditions in Nepal and other countries?

The biggest difference that I found is, expedition in Nepal is safer and service provided is also great. Besides, special and colorful cultures were developed long ago in Nepal that is also very interesting and helps to attract me in Nepal.
