Kathmandu, Pokhara and Sauraha restaurants remove 10% service charge

Kathmandu, January 29

Restaurants in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Sauraha–three popular tourist destinations of the country–have decided to remove 10 per cent service charge from their customers’ bills.

A meeting of representatives of restaurateurs held in Kathmandu on Monday made the decision.

The Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal (REBAN) had taken an initiative for the meeting.

The decision, however, will not be implemented at all restaurants and bars at once immediately, according to the organisation. REBAN says the decision will be implemented at its constituent restaurants gradually.

Leaders of the organisation say they decided to remove the service charge as most of the customers expressed their dissatisfaction over the system.

“We are committed to providing quality service despite the removal,” their statement reads.
