Kathmandu’s traffic police to take action against crowded buses

Kathmandu, June 1

Traffic police have said they will take action against public vehicles that ferry passengers beyond their seat capacity.

Organising a press conference in the Capital today, the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division said that it has hiked the fine of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for drivers who violate traffic rules. Vehicles carrying passengers more than their capacity will be slapped a fine of Rs 1,000.

Likewise, the traffic police have decided to impose a fine of Rs 1,000 on people who smoke inside public transportation. The fine for noise pollution has been hiked to Rs 1,000.

Police have also introduced a new rule for cabs operating across Nepal. “Every cab should keep their number plate inside the cab as well. We introduced this rule after receiving lots of complaints of fraud and theft,” said traffic police chief Basanta Kumar Panta.
