  • Lalitpur transport officials accused of ‘selling’ driving licence, to face suspension

    Kathmandu, May 17: The Department of Transport Management says it has found that five officials working at its driving licence distribution office in Ekantakuna of Lalitpur were involved in ‘selling’ driving licences for heavy vehicles.

    The Department is preparing to suspend them today and write to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority for further action.

    It has been learned that the staff used to give a driving licence without conducting any examination if they would be paid Rs 50,000 bribe. Besides them, five traffic police officials were also involved in the corruption, according to the Department.

    They distributed around 300 licences in past one month after receiving the kickback, an official involved in the investigation informs, “People who acquired the licence have informed that they had to pay Rs 50,000 for one licence.”
