Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday held a meeting with British counterpart Theresa May, during which the two leaders discussed protecting and promoting rights of former and current Gurkha soldiers.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, currently underway in New York of the United States.

During the meeting,  Oli told May that the Gurkhas had been complaining about discriminatory provisions about pension for them. He also requesting the British Prime Minister to address the concerns at the earliest.

Gurkha solider organisations have been demanding that the Nepal government take diplomatic initiatives to resolve long-standing issues.

Meanwhile, Oli extended an invitation to May to visit Nepal at a convenient time, according to the Prime Minister’s secretariat.

He also appreciated the British support Nepal has been receiving for decades.
