President to inaugurate 13th SAG Today

Amidst a grand ceremony, Nepal’s President Bidya Devi Bhandari will open the 13th edition of South Asian Games in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon. The event has been scheduled to take place at Dasharath Stadium at 5 pm.

Though some games have already started a few days ago, the regional event will formally open today with a three-hour-plus inauguration ceremony. The participating countries will perform march-pasts showcasing their arts and cultures during the inaugural.

The games will be played at various venues of Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur till the closing day, December 10.

Around 3,000 players from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives are vying for 317 gold, 317 silver and 481 bronze medals. A total of 26 sport disciplines have been included in the event. Around 2,000 sports officials will be mobilised.

This is the third time that Nepal is hosting the SAG. Earlier, Nepal had hosted the first and eighth editions in 1984 and 1999 respectively.
